Tatiana Nikolayeva: About war

Categories: Wartime, Tatyana Nikolayeva

Nothing was left. The village had been burnt. A German, Willis… We knew the manes of all the Germans. They came, changed each other. Some of them came to the front; some of them were completing their treatment. I will never forget. These Germans whispered to me: «Tana, Tana». He had stolen a blanket and brought me to tailor… Because I was wearing a jersey, it had been burnt… They were afraid of the Germans, the most furious were SS-men, they were afraid of them. When SS-men came to the commandant's headquarters, they took all the cattle and something … they called at every house and announced that they would come, so everyone should be ready. I remember personally when one of them came to our house and said, «They will come to collect». They came and collect everything: lard, eggs; so we did the following: we took soil, mud and draggle a pig. So he saw it and said «a schvein» and left, didn’t take it.
